Empowerment is a total failure from what it was intended to be. I guess back when they first thought of the idea most of the immortals agreed to put forth the effort and play the game and actively watch followers of their sphere. Reality is they do not. Most of them that first started way back then don't even play on a regular basis. Maybe lucky to find them on once a month. So, if you are want to play an empowered character, you are forced to choose a sphere from a god you know plays when you do. This does not encourage roleplaying, in fact, it pretty much limits a player because he has to play around those gods he knows will be around. Now the immortals have tried to work on this by empowering outside their spheres and such but it just isn't worth the head ache to most players. I mean, I can play a transmuter or conjurer and be just as powerful with half the time I put into a just trying to get empowered. I could hero a transmuter with my friends in the time it takes some people to get empowered. Now, why would anyone in their right mind wanna waste time sitting at some shrine praying to some god that in real life isn't even on. For some reason, some immortals think it is fun to waste time sitting at shrines, orpracticing skills or spells.

Now....when will the immortals realize nightgaunts were a stupid idea?
