What about if armories and weaponsmiths did sell some good stuff instead of the usual crap?
I don't mean extra powerful eq, those you really must fight for, but some decent things to get yourself dressed may you need it?
Not +stat items, but good defense, some extra hit or dam depending on level and place, a few items +hp/mana.
The eq sold varies from town to town, like:
Galadon: too many people, some will pass along crap to make profit so the usual newbie eq.
Akan: Known for it's good axes and helmets
Bryn Shandar: maces and plates of good quality.
Udgaard: heh, polearms of course, maybe some good rings.
Hillcrest: Boots, leggings and neckwear.
Darsylon: That's the place to find real good swords.
Arial city: sleeves and bracers are common here.
Tar Valon: shields and some weapons, medium quality.
New Thalos: as a portuary city, you can find anything, for the right price.
Arkham: plates, helmets and daggers of the best.
Seantryn Modam: body armor, any part, of medium quality.
Blindgestone: land of spears, expensive but worth.

I think this could give an economical touch on CF, enhancing trade and the role of shopkeepers.
