I was a Bladesinger. The blade song was, in my time, a spiritual connection, creating symmetry and harmony out of chaos from my elvish spirit and the gifts of nature (tooled through the sword). There was no specific "quest," mastering the art was a lifelong quest of mine that consumed every free moment where I was not defending the groves (there weren't many of those times, though *grins*).

Anyway, if you find it within yourself to pursue something like the bladesong, you might find the rewards great, although not at all what you are expecting, and likely not at all what you are talking about. I just remember it was a lot of fun.
