Paladins are already invulnerable to things like wrath and since there is only ever going to be one archangel at a time that there should be a special perk, hence the resistance to negative attacks. The balancing factor is that there is only ever one whereas in theory there could be 50 lich at a time.

Granted, it might not make much sense to have a holy being be invulnerable to unholy attacks, but it'd be silly to claim that a perk of becoming an archangel is immunity to wrath when in actuality paladins already have this.
