Actually, this works wonders for your friends. My 3 roomies and I would hook up with our cable modem and play Quake II capture the flag for hours on end. We actually had more fun on separate teams - fighting against each other - than when we teamed up against the other players. You start out talking a little..."I'm in Ysigrath, I dare you to come get me". Joke around a little...after a few minutes the conversation stops until someone gets killed. Then you swear and curse at the guy who killed you (and hopefully find something you can throw). It's actually a lot of fun.
