You said, "Somewhere something was introduced that made people say 'Hey, we can't handle this bastard unless we jump his bones all at once.'" I agree that things have in general swung toward the mage classes (although with the even more recent re-hiding/limiting of the various damage reduction wands the tide has and will continue to shift away from mages somewhat) but I do not completely agree that even a fully prepared mage cannot be taken by a fully prepared non-mage. (Damn hard, but not impossible) But you see, to me, that misses the point of this thread, and the discussion in general, because it rests on the presumption that getting an ic friend (NOT AN OOC FRIEND) to come help and kill this bastard mage (or any enemy for that matter) is a bad thing. The notion I'm working for here is that there is NO inherrent moral goodness or badness, rightness or wrongness, to fighting at even or uneven odds. Your statement presupposes that not being able to handle this guy is a bad thing. It's not. It *might* be bad in your opinion -- and others -- but that's what it is, opinion. Preference. Some people might like it better this way. For example: lets say someone in real life is very shy, or perhaps lives somewhere remote, or hell, has a job that forces them to be a real cut-throat individually. This person might come to the game in order to do things *as a team*, to join a gang, a group, both for the social interactions, and for the novel feelings of doing things with others. Like pk'ing. I'm not saying that's really what motivates people, I'm just giving an example off the top of my head that hopefully demonstrates the near infinite possibilities. It takes all kinds to make the world go 'round. Some people will like the group kill thing. Some won't. But don't say the game is worse now because it has had mechanical changes which produce the affect of making group killing somewhat more common. Rather, say that you personally preferred it more in earlier times because you, personally, prefer the one-on-one type fight. That's your right. It's everyone else's right to choose for themselves. If, in theory, the majority agreed with you, they'd perhaps stop playing the game entirely, and the Imm's would see a real decline in the playerbase and might effect change to the mechanics in order to reverse the trend. In fact this might be the reason wands were limited and put in new, harder to reach places recently. However, since I have not seen a real decline in player base, one can only assume that people are either not *that* upset with how the game works, with it's somewhat mechanical tilt toward gangbanging, or that they in fact like it... ("Methinks thou doth protest too much...") If I was at all unclear, I seem to be addicted to the forum today, so do not hesitate for clarifications. I'm not being very productive anyway, I might as well face the truth.
