That's a big and.

Sylvan often draws people in OOCish clumps. Now, all cabals do this to an extent (well, not Troupe I suppose), but it's really evident in Sylvan because of the low membership overall. Or maybe it's the recognition that the Sylvan's life is largely a loner's life, leading to the desire to have friends around you in the game.

It's not just "times of strong hero Sylvans." It's "times of strong Sylvans who often grouped for OOC reasons." (My Sylvan fell into this category, and blatantly so. Doesn't change my point, though.) If you look at the members of a lot of these so-called deathsquads, you can find OOC ties between them. And face it, no one permagroups for the vast roleplay possibilities. Competent people permagroup because they like being surrounded exclusively by other competent people. As Nep noted in his Karate Kid piece, competent backup is priceless.

Examples of what I'm speaking about:

Voss/Alain/Vandex
Arantomir/Hilaene/et al.
Tarek/Kifar/et al.
Culhwch/Dharlome/Asicrom

There's others, but you catch my drift. Name a Sylvan deathsquad, and I'll show you an OOC grouping. There are also other reasons for that mentality as relates to Sylvan, but I'll keep those to myself for now.
