Well, I've had a few pole warriors, and let me tell you something, saying that they are "all defence" is totally untrue. The damage potential that comes with being polearm spec is quite high. I dealed massive ammounts of damage with my pole specs. My first unspeak in the game was off a charge set (and thats without cabal powers like death blow etc..).
I never took my pole warriors very high though, so never got to choose my second spec. But 98% of the time I would die, the only reason I died was because I lost my weapon. At rank 32, I fought 5 ragers alone for 40 odd rounds, and held my ground making them flee and return. But then one of them got smart and decided to dirt me and disarm me. 4 rounds later I died a horible firey doom. If I had hand to hand, I might have lasted long enough to get away, or even stun some of them. For polearm specs in my opinion, hand-to-hand is the best choice for your second spec.
