Heh, I always thought "The Prince" by Machiavelli was better for this.

"The prince must not shy from the evils necessary for the safeguarding of the state".

If I remember, "The Republic", I thought that was more of a ant-like, almost communistic plan for a society.

What in it was polemachus inspired by?
