It took two things for me to become a 'good' killer.

1) 2 to 3 months of experience.

2) A MUD Client. When I got a mud client it was like someone had hit the badass pker toggle switch.

Of course, its not really that simple, but those were the big two for me. Beyond that you need to start analyzing classes and developing tactics to be used in various situations. To help you with that there are several thousands(?) of posts on these forums.
