>If it is not the mechanics of the mud I think you're correct in your assessment that it's not the mechanics of cabals or skills, but rather the mentality of the playerbase that has contributed to the "gangbangification" of CF. The problem however as I see it is not as much gangbanging as it is mindless killers. It's interesting that you should choose Savryn as your example as I believe that he and Matraien examplifies this very predicate. The interesting times on CF are when you forget that you're playing a game with this much hit roll, and your skills being this and that percentage, and you've got this and that skill and your opponent has those skills, and so on....Rather you think about what your role and the people you're interacting with...in short you're immersed in the game. And to get back to your discussion of which kind of killing takes the higher moral ground, in my opinion it's the obligation of every player to not only enjoy himself as much as possible, but also make the game interesting for the players you meet. Ofcourse everyone doesn't have the same resources (imagination, PKskill, command of the language, etc.) and I certainly do not claim to be the most resourcefull player, but I try to do my best, and I would hope that everyone else does the same. And I think the idea that honorable combat has moral precedence over gangbang, really is this idea in disguise. -Joshu

While there's nothing inherently wrong with killing loads of people, the overriding factor in my opinion should be whether you're contributing something to the mud or not. If we compare Istendil to Matraien (I'll assume their deathtoll are comparable), it becomes quite obvious that Istendil certainly contributed to the overriding story of CF and generally was an interesting character. Even though he might have slain you in combat, you came away with something interesting, whether it was a small conversation or something larger. Matraien on the other hand just played the numbers to see how many corpses he could amass, from my 4 encounters with him I've heard him utter nothing besides 'hold person'. To put it bluntly: I don't mind being fucked, as long as I get a bit of pillowtalk.
