and I don't say anything close to that
You sacrified something (your hours, your playing without a form, etc)
and you "demand" a reward for that.
While it is questionable that such sacrifition was need
or made somebody else happy, or add something to the game
if you are ready to do it even without compensation
or maybe even be slightly punished for it
only in this case I can say, yes, he lived his life that
way because it is his /style/role/belief/etc.
let's say a rager sacrificed his life to save other rager.
1) he is doing it because it is his faith, he plays the RAGER
2) or he is doing it to obtain a reward (which he asked)
and probably he would not do it when the reward is not going to meet him.
I tried to point at this difference in player motivation.
with a character whose main propose is to obtain a reward.
