I was always a fan of the "bring me X hundred thousand coins," and then we'll talk. I'd send a tell or two beforehand to see if the person was an idiot or not (being an idiot meant bringing more gold). I anathemized the idiots rather than inducting them when the time came around anyway, but at least this way even the dregs contributed something to the Empire. I once got 500k and a wide copper off a level 25 thief whom I promptly anathemized. If you don't enjoy being War Master (or any leadership position in Empire, really), there's something wrong. Who makes an Imperial just to be one of the masses who get bossed around all day long?
