I quote from the basic psychological profile on the web site: "Skaven are social creatures, with very little concept of self-identity." Now, if you look through Blackclaw, which is a fine example of felar "culture" as you say, you will find that felar are very individual and independent creatures with little heed for structured societies. There is no mayor of Blackclaw. There is no town magistrate. There are guards, but there is no captain of the guards, and the guards seem to have relatively little control. Felar such as Mree are protected more by admirers than by the guards. The mercenaries all choose different dress, and the colorations vary wildly. The religious aspect of Blackclaw is off to the side and clearly not a focus of society. The watercarriers for the temple give some hints as to felar attitudes about how much fur a felar should have. Less-furred felar are relegated to menial and unimportant tasks, like carrying water and caring for the temple. The focus of most Blackclaw felar is training and gaining prowess through being mercenaries. On the other hand, though, there are felar who seem to be making a name for themselves in the crafts, such as the leatherbraider. There are also felar who run inns, as well as regular felar who don't seem interested in becoming mercenaries. However, most of the shopkeepers are humans, which shows that felar have little aptitude for trading. If you take the time to look through blackclaw, I think you would agree that there is a basic culture already formed for the felar. They do not live underground, in structured societies, they do not depend on an object, such as the warpstone, they were not created by a god but by ancient mages, whom they no longer serve, making them no one's servant. Skaven apparently have both mages and priests, while the felar do not. The felar do not have any clans and do not have any particularly close family ties, although that can vary. That's about as much about the Skaven as I have time to read. The fact that both societies are animal-based is almost the only similarity between them. My point above was only that I would not have guessed that you were referring to the Skaven in regards to the felar. I would expect very few felar to be similar at all to the Skaven, unless they had been raised by the rats that we do have in the sewers of Galadon. When I created the felar, I very deliberately left their roles open. While there is an ancient hate of magic among them, many of the felar are becoming more mainstream and accepting of magic. This allows for a wide range of attitudes among felar, depending on their rearing and adult experiences. The felar would scorn attempts to make all felar act the same, because they mostly walk alone. There is no homeland for the felar, although someone might eventually write the land where they were created and the great battles were fought, but it would still not be their _home_. There are no cities built by the felar, at least as of yet. They took control of Blackclaw from the humans who ran it before, but they have no skill in building and must even employ a human to repair their tents. Perhaps this answers some questions about the felar. The information is indirectly stated in the game, but it is all there... --Poetry, the only felar bard
