Its a fairly good idea, other options include making double block work automatically or for themselves as well.
Or possibly improved resistance or something.

I get very few people wanting to be defenders. Those that do are definetly trying to help others rather than themselves or are a class (bards) that dont get any benefit from being a berserker.

This has far as Im aware always been a problem.
