Role may not be compulsary, but if I claim that I was a good roleplayer, or even a semi-decent roleplayer, and I didn't have a role, then from the imm's standpoint, my statement is false. (anyimm feel free to correct me here.)

Your statement that the imms don't want 100 page long roles, while certainly valid, has no bearing on the amount of time put into the role. I can write 100 pages (CF pages that is, i.e. 80char) of a story given half a day no problem, and I can spend 3 days writing 2 pages. The issue here is the amount of thought put into it and the quality of the final product.

In short:

Role *is* compulsary, and Hruptek's role, while it may be a decent attempt at roleplaying, does not support the claim he makes, i.e. "I put a pretty deep personality into Hruptek, and the reasons behind his actions were there"
