A few things: Sylvan used to be a fairly unique concept. It was Dawn before there was a Dawn. You had a group of people who really enjoyed just sitting around the grove roleplay a family-like group of people who truly cared and loved each other. They were relatively non-aggresive and would sometimes even *gasp* talk to defilers rather than immediately looking for someone in their range to come kill them. You had a few people who liked to kill(I was one of them) but the vast majority were just peaceloving folk that really made it a joy to play a sylvan because of the diversity of people playing and roleplaying. Then there was that wave of people post- Griffith that really abused the hell out of the powers, getting shamen, warriors, and thieves banned from their ranks to try and reinstill that peaceful-treehugginess. There was a period where it worked, then Jezral flipped his lid and wrote a note to sylvan basically telling them to get out there and beat some ass. I can't remember if this was pre or post Crystanthia as leader but I think it was right before. Then came Lanthaeren who continued along the path of bloodthirstiness even though the leaders of the time couldn't pk worth a damn(Doveras and Arkand). After Doveras there was a long drought where Sylvan basically sucked over-ripe testicles. Then Voss came along and the bloodthirsty guerrila cabal came into being. Right about this time the pk list on the official page was put up, the war with magic was declared and a bunch of other things that really made the unique sylvan cabal of the early days non-existant and a distant memory. Voss and Hilaene were/are basically carbon copies of Sebeok. The intensity is there, the sternness is there and so forth. Now it's kill kill kill. Kill the masters. Kill the defilers. Don't talk! Kill Kill Kill!!!! *sighs* Sadly, all of the cabals have lost their direction. They've lost their willingness to talk to people of opposing cabals. Now they're just the same cabal of bloodthirsty dogs but with different powers. I can't remember the last time a warder actually tried to get me to stop defiling without having somebody come attempt to kill me. You'd think since the majority of you are fucking worthless when it comes to protection you might actually try talking, but no, I guess you think it's easier just to have the person dead. What do we have now. A bard which is basically worthless when protecting creatures. A shaman which is even moreso. A druid which is slightly better. Rangers which make me laugh with their silly herbs and armor. And a smattering of others actually worth a damn(ie healers, transmuters, and invokers) As for Pikel, do a Lycos search on his name, I don't think you'll have any problem locating the Salvatore book and/or a brief description of this dwarven cook who couldn't talk right and died his beard green because he wanted to be a "doo dad" or druid in English. I'm just waiting for his brother Ivan to apply. I think every dwarf I've interacted with since Thror has talked like he has three different lisps and only knows half the alphabet. Starting to get tiresome.
